Walking in the Promise - (January 25, 2008)

Dear friend I know that you desire to walk as a Christian. Yet your friends are telling you that your behavior is anything but Christian by their pulling away and their avoidance of you. Their actions speak louder than words and you are deeply troubled. You must ask yourself what is it in your past that’s still troubling you. What is it that causes your un-Christian behavior when you so desire to walk as a Christian? Let me suggest dear friend that you are still in bondage to an old behavior. This behavior was not learned in a day but was learned over many years in your life by responding incorrectly to one of life’s problems. This could have been a response to some sort of abuse or trauma that you have experienced in your life.

But now I am asking you to look once again at the promise that was given to you in Christ Jesus. A promise so precious and so powerful that many brothers and sisters in the Lord have been rescued by it. Let me remind you again of this promise. When you came to Christ, you came as a child believing that He died for your sins and has forgiven you of all of your past sins. He promised to deliver you from the power of Satan and the forces of darkness, but Christ has also promised to make you into a new creation. Yes a new creation where old thing pass away, behold all things become new. Let me remind you once again what that means. That means that all of those old learned behaviors no longer hold you in bondage. They no longer hold sway over your life. They no longer have the power to make you behave in a very un-Christian way.

So dear friend, let me suggest that you learn how to walk in the promise. To do so will bring freedom! To walk in the promise you must first believe, really believe, that God has already (past tense) made you into a new creation. So the next time you have that urge to act in an un-Christian way by responding inappropriately then stop immediately and remember what Christ has done for you. Putting off the old behavior is only a half step. You must take the full step into His precious promise – put on the new by asking God to love others through you. Look to be a blessing always instead of a curse then you will soon discover that your friends will start coming around again. This will be a time of great rejoicing.
